‘Back to Basics’ trend for 2019

‘Back to Basics’ trend for 2019

Global spa consultancy Raison d’Etre has forecast ‘Back to Basics’ will be a leading wellness trend this year.

As consumers become more aware of the time they’re spending online, trends in travel are responding, becoming more stripped-back and basic. Following a long period where holidaymakers sought ‘Instagrammable’ locations, Raison d’Etre predicts that 2019 will see travellers instead immersing themselves in their travel experiences, focusing on mindfully making the moment rewarding and memorable. People want to go back to basics, having experiences that move and shape them as people.

Anna-Cari Gund, Managing Director of Raison d’Etre, says: “Wellness for us has always been about creating meaningful, authentic experiences that help people discover things about themselves. However, recently we’ve found people only believed they’ve had an experience if they posted it on social media. It is exciting that travel is returning to its roots in discovery, immersion and getting lost. This is something we can take inspiration from in the world of wellness.”

The LivNordic spa onboard Viking Sea Cruise Ships has embraced this movement towards authenticity by allowing guests to join in an expert-led group demonstrating ‘Nordic Bathing’. Furthermore, the new ,500 sq m spa within Alsik Hotel in Sønderborg, Southern Denmark, due to open this spring, includes Teen and Kids clubs to inspire a sense of true Scandi wellbeing, as well as 10 different relaxation and socialisation areas.
