BC Softwear makes a plastic pledge

BC Softwear makes a plastic pledge

From January, BC Softwear will remove individual plastic wrapping from every pair of spa and hotel slippers it sells, in a pledge to the seas.

Created in a bid to take responsibility for the environment, the pledge equates to 34 tonnes (that’s 34,000 kilos) of plastic saved from landfill in 2019. Each pair of slippers will be packed one inside the other, end to end, meaning there will only be one large bag required to protect the slippers in transit.

The company has also removed the individual plastic wrappers from towels. This equates to an additional 16 tonnes (16,000 kilos) – making a total of 50,000 kilos of plastic that is no longer going into landfill or our seas.

Managing director Barbara Cooke says: “We have been making a conscious effort to recycle our cardboard boxes and packaging for some time. The Cleaner Seas Project prompted us to take more radical action to remove the plastic packaging from our slippers and towels and the majority of our customers have welcomed this change.”

In the coming months, BC Softwear will work on additional ways to change packaging to help reduce the use of plastic and will also be launching a new initiative to customers who purchase flip flops, in collaboration with a charity who are aiming to collect and reuse them. Project ‘Flip don’t Flop’ will be launched at Spa Life 2018.
