£8m spa opens at Swinton Estate

The 20,000-acre privately-owned North Yorkshire Swinton estate has opened it’s 2,000 sq m spa

Designed by architects Bowman-Riley, the spa is located in the estate’s country club, which incorporates renovated historic buildings within an original walled garden. Facilities on offer include nine treatment rooms, an 18m indoor swimming pool, a hydrotherapy pool for therapeutic bathing, a steam room for deep muscular relaxation and detoxification, an aroma steam room using seasonal fragrances and a Finnish sauna.

Outside facilities include a spa garden with herbal sauna and shower, a cedar hot tub and a 10m natural water swimming pool. One of the estate’s original buildings also houses a beauty cottage, connected with the spa, offering manicures, pedicures and hair styling.

Lastly there is a large health and fitness club with a gym, functional fitness space and a group exercise studio.

Swinton has chosen to work with both Elemis and Bamford – the brand’s first venture outside its Haybarn Spa brand. Signature treatments include the Elemis Poultice-Powered Muscle Release, the Elemis Garden of England Rose Restore Wrap, the Bamford Signature Facial and the Bamford Body Signature.

Richard Macklin, formerly senior director of Nirvana Spa & Leisure, has been appointed spa manager.

Owned and run by the Cunliffe-Lister family since the 1880s, the new Country Club and Spa is the vision of owners Mark and Felicity. Their Estate also houses a Grade II-listed, 32-bedroom boutique hotel, park land and nature walks and the Swinton Bivouac glamping site.
