Algorithmic beauty… the next big thing?

Algorithmic beauty… the next big thing?

Forget clean beauty, organic ingredients and natural-looking, glowing skin… the next big thing for 2019 is set to be algorithmic beauty according to trend forecaster, The Future Laboratory.

Beauty technologies such as artificial intelligence and algorithms will take centre stage, assessing faces in order to create personalised skincare and custom-made make-up plans.

Lead researchers Jessica Smith and Rhiannon McGregor suggest that as beauty technologies become more popular, social media, artificial intelligence and algorithms will begin to create a new ‘ideal of flawlessness’, with beauty standards shifting from subjective to objective ideals.

The pair will share more of their findings on the biggest trends at the Global Wellness Summit in October. As well as analysing opportunities presented by algorithmic beauty, they will examine artificial-intelligence-driven devices that can provide continuous feedback on the efficacy of products and nanotechnology driven non-invasive procedures.

“The Future Laboratory is one of the most provocative and prescient trend forecasters, helping the world’s top brands visualise the macro and micro trends likely to shake up their businesses,” said Susie Ellis, chairman and chief executive of the Global Wellness Summit.
