Alpine-inspired spa for Scarborough

Alpine-inspired spa for Scarborough

Alpamare Scarborough, a waterpark in Yorkshire, has opened a new 1,000sq m alpine-inspired spa.

Wellness at Alpamare offers four private treatment rooms, with products and treatments from Elemis. Facilities include a hammam, herbal and soap steam baths, a hay bath, a mud rhassoul, a Finnish panoramic sauna as well as a clay sauna, an ice and aroma shower and an outdoor iodine infinity pool.

Self-guided ritual trails have been designed exclusively for the spa. Hammam-Relax, for example, is an 11-step ritual combining thermal experiences with bathing, aiding relaxation by slowly warming then cooling the muscles.

Created by consultancy firm Spa4, Wellness at Alpamare will offer guests the chance to try the ancient Aufguss Ritual. This thermal ritual, which is led by an Aufgussmeister, involves scented steam being directed at bathers using rhythmic movements and a towel. The ceremony is followed by a cold shower to create a thermal shock, releasing adrenaline and endorphins.

Alpamare CEO, Dr Anton Hoefter says: “Wellness at Alpamare is completely different from anything else in the UK, caring for the wellbeing of the mind as well as the body. You can free-flow through a series of saunas and steam rooms at will, follow ritual trails specially created by wellness experts, enjoy a classic treatment, or immerse yourself in an uplifting Aufguss ceremony.”
