Anyone for haybathing?

Anyone for haybathing?

Weed massages and hay bathing are set to be the next ‘big thing’ in wellness according to the latest report from trend forecasting firm, WGSN (World Global Style Network)

WGSN has been tracking wellness since 2005. The new report identifies key emerging trends in the wellness and spa sectors, from energetic healing, halotherapy and mindfulness to hay bathing – which is, as it sounds, bathing in hay!

WGSN beauty editor and trend expert Theresa Yee says: “There is an obsession with wellness right now as consumers look to better themselves, mentally, physically and spiritually. We’re seeing a rise in self-improvement and self-care, with a focus on improving the overall mental and physical wellbeing with products that empower.”

The first trend WGSN cites is energetic healing, using the earth’s natural energy sources, paired with traditional healing practices, to improve circulation, relieve aches and pains, remove energy blockages and ease muscle tension. Spas should look to make use of scent and sounds as much as possible to enhance relaxation and create different moods and atmospheres.

There will be an ever increasing demand for ancient natural remedies that have been used for hundreds or thousands of years, WGSN reports. Hot saunas, halotherapy and sleep-focused wellness are also going to continue to boom, and there will be a surge in popularity for hay bathing. An ancient Austria tradition, dating back more than 200 years, hay bathing exploits benefit of hay as a source of pain relief and energy, based on experiences of farmers who slept in it, explains the WGSN report. Treatments use fermented alpine hay and grasses, combined with healing herbs such as arnica, heather and thyme, to rejuvenate the immune system, ease muscle pains and improve circulation.

The report recommends incorporating yoga, sound baths and meditation to offer consumers holistic education as well as interactive activities on how to improve overall health and wellbeing.
