Armathwaite Hall Introduces Group Silent Walks

Armathwaite Hall Introduces Group Silent Walks

Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa in the Lake District has introduced guided silent walks to its wellness programme in response to the growing demand to ‘switch off’. With minimal noise pollution thanks to its remote and stunning landscape, these walks give guests the opportunity to appreciate silence amidst the serene beauty of the Lake District.

Lucy Dunn, who will be leading the Group Silent Estate Nature Walks at Armathwaite Hall has outlined the sensory experiences guests will encounter during their walk. With serene surroundings and minimal noise, guest’s senses will come alive, weaving through various stops to reach a place of stillness and quiet.

  1. Hear: The gentle lapping of water from nearby lakes and streams, the occasional call of distant birds, and the rustle of leaves in the breeze provide a soothing soundtrack to the surroundings. In the silence, even the smallest sounds become more pronounced, enhancing the feeling of serenity.

  2. See: The tranquil beauty of the still lake, surrounded by lush greenery and towering mountains, creates a breathtaking panorama. The reflection of the landscape on the calm water's surface adds to the sense of peace and tranquillity. The stunning backdrop of the hotel, set within 400 acres of peaceful woodland with breathtaking views over Bassenthwaite Lake and the Skiddaw Mountains, makes it a supreme location to embark on this creative and mindful journey. Embrace the excitement of spotting signs of wildlife, even if the animals themselves remain elusive. Look for footprints, woodpecker holes, teeth marks, bird nests, or spider webs to enhance your sense.

  3. Smell: The fresh air carries hints of pine and spruce, while earthy aromas of soil and moss evoke nature's embrace. During spring and summer, delicate wildflowers perfume the air with their fragrant blooms, adding a touch of sweetness to the breeze. Near the water's edge, the clean, crisp scent of freshwater mingles with the occasional whiff of petrichor after a refreshing rainfall. Together, these scents form a symphony that harmonizes with the region's natural beauty.

  4. Touch: Feel the rough bark of ancient trees while exploring the dense forests, or run fingers over the smooth, cool surface of pebbles along the shoreline of Bassenthwaite Lake. Walkers can feel the soft moss cushioning their steps as they hike through verdant valleys, while the gentle touch of a breeze against the skin brings a sense of refreshment and vitality. Each touch offers a unique opportunity to engage with the textures and sensations of the Lake District, fostering a deeper connection to the landscape and its natural wonders.

With little to no noise pollution in the Lake District, it becomes an idyllic sanctuary for those seeking to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. Here, amidst the serene landscapes and tranquil surroundings, visitors are enveloped in a sensory experience like no other. Allowing for a profound connection with the natural world exploring the Lake District in silence makes for a wonderful way to challenge and refresh the body and mind.
