Brits more stressed than ever

Brits more stressed than ever

The need for spas has never been greater, as new research reveals angry Brits reach boiling point, on average, 20 times a month.

The research, conducted by Redring, found that people pushing into queues, rude shop assistants and people who can’t park properly are the nation’s biggest bug bears, with lengthy airport delays, not being able to log on to WiFi and spam emails also featuring highly.

The research also found that 62 per cent of us find the strains of modern life often make us angry and, unsurprisingly, more than one in 10 respondents described themselves as “very stressed”.

Four in 10 of those surveyed said that when they lose their temper they are most likely to vent their anger at their other half. On average, the research revealed that the typical adult will have four arguments a month with other halves being the person we are most likely to row with.

Julie McLean for Redring, who commissioned the survey, says: ‘Even the calmest of people lose their temper every now and then. Spas are perfectly placed to help angry Brits relax, destress and regain some internal alignment.’

Wellness has seen significant growth since 2010, with the Global Wellness Economy Monitor showing the spa industry grew 58 per cent from $60 billion in 2007 to $94 billion in 2013, with a 47 per cent increase in spa locations.

Susie Ellis, Chairman and CEO of the Global Wellness Institute, believes the research reflects a seismic shift in personal behaviour. ‘We are at a pivotal movement where people worldwide are taking steps to change the way they live, work, and play, while at the same time governments are finally recognising the value of investing in wellness to lower healthcare costs. The wellness industry can play a critical role in leading efforts to ensure that people worldwide have access to the best services, products, and information that promote health and well-being.’
