Champneys expands portfolio

Spa group Champneys has acquired Grade II listed Mottram Hall in Cheshire, taking its property portfolio to six destination spas.

Built in 1721 by Nathaniel Booth, Mottram Hall was converted into a hotel in 1940 and has been part of the QHotels portfolio since 2014.

Champney’s has plans to complete a £10m refurbishment programme at the property, adding 30 more bedrooms and conference facilities. Five million pounds hgas been ringfenced for a redesign of the existing spa facilities. The new spa will include 18 treatment rooms, a 20m swimming pool and new thermal experiences.

The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

Champney’s owner Stephen Purdew says: “Mottram Hall is a fantastic property and we’re delighted to be adding it to our collection of properties. Being in the North West it gives our brand a broader geographical spread and we’re planning a considerable investment in the property over the next year.”
