CND has collaborated with British designer Gareth Pugh to create an iconic SS21 collection. Over the course of a two-day shoot, CND™ were on hand to help Gareth Pugh bring his SS21 collection, The Reconstruction to life. Featuring 13 iconic looks that were inspired by 13 iconic songs, the collection’s nail art was carefully curated by Lauren Michelle Pires using CND™.
Gareth Pugh’s The Reconstruction celebrates the eternal interplay between fashion, music and film and, for the first time, his runway collection will be presented as a “visual concept album.” Featuring 13 iconic looks, complete with nail designs created by Lauren Michelle Pires using CND™, the looks were all inspired by 13 iconic songs. The collection has been captured in 13 stills and 13 explosive fashion film shorts - shot by globally renowned fashion image-maker Nick Knight.
“For us, when we do a shoot or a show, every little detail is important. I’ve worked with CND™ for quite a few years and their nail artistry is next level. They have that close attention to detail; I like things to be very particular and CND™ nail artists have a very slick approach to how they work.” – Gareth Pugh, Designer
Intended not only as a dazzling visual tour-de-force, but also as a radical statement of solidarity, this project is an entirely non-profit venture, with all proceeds going to Refuge.
Lead Nail Technician Lauren Michelle Pires created eleven key nail looks, all utilising the extensive colour palette that CND™has to offer.
“I chose to partner with CND™ because their colour range is so extensive and it’s great for layering to create the bespoke colours that are needed to match a brief. In preparation for today, Gareth sent over the textures and the fabrics within the collection and any other inspiration that he had, and we then worked with and built upon that.” Lauren Michelle Pires, Lead Nail Technician.
A favourite of the day was titled Weathered Verdigris which complemented the outfit ‘The Shard’. This stunning green marbled effect was created using CND™ Shellac™ in Magical Topiary as the base, with shades Cap & Gown and Mystic Slate carefully sponged onto the nail.
“The CND™ Shellac™ shade in Magical Topiary has been one of my absolute favourite colours to work with this season.” comments Lauren. “The colour is so beautiful, it’s like a pure mint green with a hint of blue and it matches anyone’s skin tone.”
Another stand-out look included the Black Flecked Glass look which was styled alongside the outfit ‘The Bo$$’. This was created by applying CND™ Shellac™ in Black Pool to the base of the nail. Then, using a separate nail tip that’s one size bigger than the original tip, Lauren clipped out the glass-like ‘shards.’ The shards were then glued to the nail and painted over again using CND™ Shellac™ Black Pool.
