Galapagos Islands on the spa map

Galapagos Islands on the spa map

A newly opened spa, plus one in the design stages, has turned the spa spotlight on the World Heritage site.

Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel on Santa Cruz Island in the Galapagos Islands, which is owned by Metropolitan Touring, has developed a boutique spa built from volcanic rock on its property.

The two treatment rooms, spa baths and yoga deck overlooking the beach have been designed to complement the contemporary and relaxed style of the hotel with an eco friendly emphasis.

Spa consultants Raison d’Etre provided training for the spa therapists, who will deliver treatments inspired by the local natural environment.

Meanwhile, on the northeastern coast of San Cristobal Island, Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas will open a new Galapagos Islands resort in 2021.

Under architectural direction by Hitesh Mehta Design, the resort spa will feature a fitness centre, yoga studio and Alchemy Bar, however it will be the local healing and herbalist treatment offerings that will set it apart.

Sustainability will be at the heart of the new project, with an emphasis on restoring the original Miconia ecosystem and maintaining a native plant nursery on site.

Plans are also underway for an Earth Lab showcasing the project’s sustainability and an Experience Centre designed to host research and educational activities in the region.

Chief Executive Officer Neil Jacobs of Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas said: “Sustainability is at the core of our brand, influencing everything from ongoing community engagement and conservation efforts to the local, repurposed materials used in the development. We are excited and delighted to work with Orgal Group on this extraordinary project in such a special and environmentally sensitive place, staying true to our joint purpose of ecosystem restoration, scientific research of marine species and low-impact tourism.”
