Green Cosmetics take the spot-light

Green Cosmetics take the spot-light

The aim of the Sustainable Cosmetics Summit, launched in 2009, is to encourage sustainability in the beauty industry by bringing together key stakeholders to debate major issues.

This year’s summit, which will take place from 16-18 May in New York, will kick off with an update on sustainability developments in wellness and feature a keynote discussion on the health and environmental impacts of contentious chemicals.

Keynote speaker David Streuli, who is principal scientist at US chemical company Ashland, will give delegates a greater insight into the sustainability issues associated with aerosols and explain the Chemical Footprint Project and how it is helping to develop safer chemicals.

Combatting ocean plastic is a key environmental topic, in the news just this week after microbeads were banned from cosmetics in the UK. Plastic in our oceans will be widely discussed, with emphasis placed on the wellness industry’s responsibility when it comes to tackling the issue.

Organized by Ecovia Intelligence (formerly Organic Monitor), the summit will bring together cosmetic manufacturers, ingredient and raw material suppliers, retailers and distributors, as well as industry organizations and certification agencies, researchers, academics and investors.
