The Green Spa Network (GSN) has partnered with a Belgian re-forestation non-profit company, WeForest, which works with communities, local organisations and NGOs to develop scalable reforestation projects. Together, WeForest and the GSN have created the GSN Tree Planting Initiative, designed to encourage the spa community to plant a million trees by Earth Day 2019.
Bonnie Baker, founder of Satteva Spa and Wellness Concepts and VP board of directors for the GSN, says: “There are many different ways a spa or product company can tailor the GSN Tree Planting Initiative to their own needs. We really want to show the spa community it can create positive global impact and change.”
GSN members are being asked to pledge to contribute to this effort, perhaps by planting a tree for every treatment given or asking customers to donate to the cause at point-of-sale. Other suggestions include choosing to donate 10 per cent of profits to WeForest’s efforts or including a tree-planting event in Global Wellness Day celebrations.
The Initiative will contribute specifically to WeForest's Brazil project, to support the Brazilian Atlantic Forest and create forest corridors between remaining fragments, increasing tree cover and habitat connectivity.
