GWS names its Shark-Tank Winner

The Global Wellness Summit has named Jarrod Luca as winner of the Shark Tank of Wellness Student Competition

 

A student of Florida State University, Luca took top honours for developing a new virtual reality therapy to treat sufferers of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) and anxiety. His EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing uses a virtual reality headset.

 

Luca beat 60 other students from 26 countries to be named the Global Wellness Summit's second annual Shark Tank of Wellness winner. All three finalists presented technology-based solutions, emphasising the importance technology holds for the new generation of wellness innovators and the crucial role it will continue to play in delivering health and wellness to a global community.

 

Runner up Maria Gil, from École de Lausanne in Switzerland, developed the pHealth toothbrush, which measures the pH levels from saliva in the mouth and is displayed via an app, to encourage people to a consume a less acidic diet.

 

‘The Shark Tank of Wellness offers an important look at what lies ahead for the wellness industry,’ said GWS Chairman and CEO Susie Ellis. ‘The Shark Tank of Wellness is a unique global challenge, giving university students the opportunity to submit innovative, impactful ideas for the wellness industry.’
