High-end beauty is making its mark

High-end beauty is making its mark

Online sales of high-end beauty and spa products are increasing, according to research by The NPD Group.

Sales online in the UK increased by 13 per cent in the 12 months to the end of 2018, taking the total value of the prestige beauty market to £2.7 billion in 2018.

NPD’s research demonstrates that e-commerce now accounts for 20 per cent of all high-end  beauty sales, meaning retail outlets still represent 80 per cent of the market.

Despite this being a 2 per cent decrease compared to 2017, it demonstrated the continued importance of a hands-on, consultant-led approach to selling beauty and spa products.

June Jensen, NPD UK Beauty director says: “The retail market for prestige beauty has faced many challenges in 2018 from low consumer confidence, a decline in foot fall, businesses falling into administration and Brexit, which have all compounded financial woes. There are many positives here; Ecommerce is growing, and the high street has responded too, adapting its model to offer more experiential retail opportunities for customers.”
