LSB to launch training for cancer treatments

The London School of Beauty and Make-up has partnered with the Made for Life Foundation to introduce a Cancer Touch Therapy training course.

The three-day fully accredited programme provides qualified therapists with the opportunity to learn how to safely welcome cancer patients into their treatment rooms. Designed for Level Three therapists, the course offers a deeper understanding of cancer, including what it is, the grading and staging and how its treatments affect the skin.

Upon finishing the course, therapists will be qualified to offer treatments to clients currently living with or in receipt of treatments for cancer, as well as those in remission, taking into account contraindications, restrictions or adaptations necessary to safeguard the client and provide an enjoyable experience.

The course is accredited by the Complementary Medical Association, which means insurance can be gained by individual therapists and salons. It was developed with advice from trained oncology massage teachers and advisors within the oncology team at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and Macmillan. Marc Innes, MISRM, MCMA and Founder of the School of Natural Therapies is the course lead trainer.

Amanda Winwood, MD of Made for Life Organics and Founder of the Made for Life Foundation says: “We are committed to ensuring young people training in the spa industry are given the knowledge and understanding to confidently welcome those with cancer to any spa they work in.”

Jo Harris, General Manager at The London School of Beauty & Make-Up , says: “The industry has changed dramatically over recent years, however education hasn’t quite caught up with the needs of our employers or clients. The aim of our partnership with the Made for Life Foundation is to make this much needed skill accessible not just to our students but top current therapists, ensuring we are leading the way in education.”
