Mental health and body positivity take centre stage

Body image was been chosen as the theme for The Mental Health Foundation’s (MHF) Mental Health Awareness Week this year and Spa Experience has launched a body-positive campaign featuring real clients.

Taking place last week (13-19 May), Mental Health Awareness Week explored how people think and feel about their bodies – with a focus on mental fitness and wellbeing.

“Body image issues can affect all of us at any age. During the week we published new research, considering some of the reasons why our body image can impact the way that we feel, campaigning for change,” the MHF said in a statement.

Meanwhile day spa chain Spa Experience by Better launched a new ‘keep it real’ campaign, featuring real clients, to celebrate every body type and show a realistic reflection of the people who use the spa’s facilities.

Melissa Evans, Spa Experience’s national spa and fitness class manager, says: “At Spa Experience we want to promote mental as well as physical health and wellness and the anxieties around body image are well documented. Taking the decision to stop using professional models and to use our clients to showcase our facilities instead was an obvious one. The photoshoot was a real celebration of what we stand for and we couldn’t be happier with the results.”
