The annual Travelodge holiday index survey has revealed that 69% of Brits are planning a staycation this summer, bringing £40bn to economy.

The index, which surveys 1,500 British adults about their holiday plans, states 58% of adults have opted to holiday at home due to Brexit uncertainties and this year will see a 12% increase on the number of people planning to holiday in the UK compared with 2018.

The report also revealed a growing trend for holiday hopping, with 45% of holidaymakers taking in three locations on their Summercation, which includes a beach, rural and city stopover – great news for hotels and spas around the UK.

UK city breaks are the second most popular type of holidays for 29% of the public, with London taking the number one spot, followed by Bath at number two and Birmingham at number three.

Shakila Ahmed, a Travelodge spokeswoman, says: ‘Our annual holiday index reveals that we have become a mighty Staycation Nation and are doing our bit for the economy. With over 560 hotels and spas across the length and breadth of the UK, we are also seeing a growing trend in Britons taking multi-location holidays and more short breaks.’
