David Scowsill has stepped down as president of the World Travel & Tourism Council

After six years at the helm, David Scowsill has announced he will no longer be president of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). He is the third president in the 26-year history of WTTC.

During his tenure, Scowsill has grown the organisation, championing the private sector views in high level governmental discussions and promoting the sustainable growth of tourism.

‘It has been a privilege to lead WTTC. The membership of the organisation has doubled in the last period, but more significant has been our work with governments at all levels on the key strategic issues for the sector,’ says Scowsill. ‘Making this announcement now gives the executive committee time to identify a successor and work towards a smooth transition in leadership. I now look forward to focussing on new opportunities, knowing that I am leaving WTTC in great shape.’

Scowsill has been president WTTC since October 2010. As founder and chair of The Global Travel Association Coalition, he ensured the travel industry spoke to governments with one voice on key issues – from travel facilitation and terrorism to environmental sustainability.

‘The executive committee thanks David for his service,’ said Gerald Lawless, WTTC chairman. ‘Under his leadership, the WTTC is clearly positioned as the private sector authority on tourism, reflected in the calibre and geographic diversity of the membership group.’
