New Sustainable Spa certification

New Sustainable Spa certification

A US-based certification programme for green spas has been launched by Vios Spa Group. The global spa certification is designed to assess and recognise spas with leading sustainability practices and quality standards.

The programme’s founder, Shelley Lotz, has more than 25 years of experience in the industry. Formerly a board member of the Green Spa Network, she is also a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor and author of Green Spas and Salons: How to Make Your Business Truly Sustainable.

The certification programme is available to hotel/resort and destination spas, and comprises a two-day, on-site assessment that looks at 200 specific criteria. These include services, supplies and the use of green, clean skincare and body treatment brands.

Lotz says: “We understand how much effort it takes to create a spa with eco standards. Our certification programme has been designed to not only recognise those establishments that achieve this, but to also inspire and educate spas in ways they can go green. And now consumers will have a way to find and experience verified spas who care about people's health as well as keeping the planet healthy.”

Third-party assessors are spa and sustainability professionals including Bonnie Baker, co-founder of Satteva Spa & Wellness Concepts and Vios’ operations manager Kari Brayman, a strategic branding and digital marketing expert.
