Renaissance for UK’s ‘original spa resort’

Renaissance for UK’s ‘original spa resort’

As part of a campaign to promote its hidden spa gems, Bournemouth is uncovering its heritage and pitching itself as the ultimate spa destination.

Much acclaimed in the Victorian era for the pine-scented air and medicinally beneficial seawater, Bournemouth Tourism is now using this history to help highlight the abundance of cliff top and beachfront hotels that offer 21st Century wellness breaks and treatment packages.

One in five people now take a dedicated wellness break at least once a year, according to the Wellness Tourism survey from the National Coastal Tourism Academy. Bournemouth offers clients the choice of almost every major treatment and brand, alongside sprawling beaches and boasts a microclimate which gets 7.7 hours of summer sunshine a day.

Chris Evetts, health club and spa manager at the Hallmark West Cliff Hotel & Spa, says: ‘Bournemouth is the ideal spa destination – you can take time away from your busy day or schedule with a nice relaxing spa day using the fantastic facilities we have on offer, and you’re just a 10-minute walk from the seven miles of golden sand at Bournemouth beach or 15 minutes from the shops.’
