Spa Life supports the UK Spa Association’s call for the industry to unite and lobby government to reopen spas and salons

Spa Life supports the UK Spa Association’s call for the industry to unite and lobby government to reopen spas and salons

Following the government’s announcement on June 23rd that spas, beauty salons and leisure facilities are to remain closed beyond the widely anticipated reopening date of 4th July, Spa Life International is joining with the UK Spa Association (UKSA) to encourage the industry to come together to call on the government for clarity on a date for the industry to reopen to the public.

Spa Life International is joining the Association’s 'A Date for Wellness #saveourspas' campaign to encourage individual businesses that have been impacted by the government’s decision to keep spas, wellness and beauty establishments closed, to write to the Prime Minister and their local MP’s to call for clarity on when they will be able to restart operations.

The trade association, in partnership with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Beauty, Aesthetics and Wellness, has created two template letters for businesses to tailor and send to both the Prime Minister and their local constituency MP calling for a better understanding of when the industry can reopen.

Helena Grzesk, general manager for the UK Spa Association said on a press conference earlier this week; “We’ve been working for months with the government on strict safety guidelines to allow the industry to reopen to the public. Following last week’s announcement we’ve been continuing to lobby on the urgency for the industry to reopen, but our calls are not being heard”.

“I’m hearing from our membership on a daily basis about the strain this is having on their businesses. The longer that spa facilities are forced to remain closed, the more jobs are at risk, with many businesses facing the very real risk of permanent closure“.

“We now need to unite and challenge the government to reconsider the reopening of spa, beauty and wellness facilities alongside hairdressers, and push for a definitive reopening date for when we can resume operations”.

Spa Life International’s founder Andrew Hammond comments: “With many business sectors impacted by the government’s continued lockdown asking for attention, it is absolutely vital that we come together as an industry and do what we can to ensure that the spa, beauty and wellness sector is not left behind.  We need to make our voice heard, promote that the industry is safe and ready to re-open, and call for a definitive date for business to recommence”.
