Spabreaks.com unveils latest leisure industry report

Spabreaks.com has unveiled its latest report on the state of the leisure industry.

Focusing on domestic UK travel patterns post-Brexit, the report found that the falling pound had resulted in an increase in short breaks being booked with a 220% increase in bookings year-on-year.

Of the short breaks being booked, there was specific interest in Scotland, Wales and South West England as well as increased bookings for other areas of the UK. Ireland also experienced a 'surge in interest' with groups, couples and families all taking advantage of the easy air access from the mainland UK and enjoying the 'outstanding properties' available.

A leading spa booking agency working with more than 800 venues in the UK and overseas, Spabreaks.com was co-founded by Abi Wright, who offered her view on the post-Brexit leisure industry performance so far: “We've noted a boom in domestic UK travel this summer. The weakness of the Pound combined with uncertainty abroad appears to be encouraging holidaymakers to stay within the UK and with trusted brands.”

Abi continued: “The spa industry is benefitting because those choosing a 'staycation' seem more likely to add a touch of luxury, by way of spa treatments, as a treat. We expect spa in particular to continue to enjoy growth as those working hard to make ends meet in uncertain times seek to self-treat and enjoy trips based on wellness, relaxation and indulgence.”
