Swinton Estate strengthens team

The Swinton Estate in North Yorkshire, one of the largest privately owned estates in England, has appointed a new managing director of hotel, spa and leisure as well as a new head chef.

Iain Shelton, who joins the 20,000-acre estate as managing director of hotel, spa and leisure, has a background working in similar roles within the Devonshire Estate at Bolton Abbey and Chatsworth, as well as the Fitzwilliam Estate in Malton. He brings 30 years’ of hospitality experience to the role and will oversee the luxury hotel, the Swinton Bivouac glampsite and the new Country Club and Spa, which opened last summer.

In addition, York-born Sam Miller, previously a Young Chef of the Year finalist, has been appointed as head chef. Miller will head up the team in The Terrace’s AA Rosette kitchen.

Felicity Cunliffe-Lister, proprietor of Swinton Park, says: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming Iain and Sam to the team. Each brings valuable skill and experience to their respective roles that will ensure the business continues to thrive in today’s competitive hospitality market.”

The Swinton Estate has been owned by the Cunliffe-Lister family since the 1880s and comprises Swinton Park, the 32-room castle hotel, Swinton Cookery School, the newly launched adjacent Country Club and Spa and Swinton Bivouac, the estate’s tree lodge and glamping retreat.
