The Davines Group, Benefit Corporation, renews its B Corp Certification

Davines S.p.A., the parent company behind the Comfort Zone brand has successfully renewed its B Corp certification. The Parma based company - that certified for the first time at the end of 2016 with a score of 99 increased its overall rating out of 200 to 117.4, exceeding all expectations and cementing its place amongst a host of other leading international companies that are reinventing business, by pursuing purpose as well as profit.

The Davines Group, founded in 1983 by the Bollati family, is today an international business dedicated to creating and manufacturing specialist sustainable and ethically sound high quality products for professional salon and spa customers through their Davines and Comfort Zone brands.

Like all other B Corps, The Davines Group competes to maximize its positive impact beyond profit, by seeking innovative solutions to environmental and social issues and complying with the highest standards of performance, transparency and responsibility. B Corps are assessed via a score that measures the company’s degree of social and environmental performance in five areas: governance, people, community, environment and customers. Reaching the score requested for certification ranging from 80 to a maximum of 200, requires deep structural changes even for companies like the Davines Group that have already been investing in sustainable development for years.

The company scored particularly highly thanks to its environmental commitments, achieving carbon neutrality by reducing and offsetting their carbon dioxide emissions across all its branches worldwide. The company has also brought their carbon dioxide emissions from electric and thermal power down to zero at their Davines Village headquarters and production plant in Parma, through the use of electric power from renewable sources, biomethane, photovoltaic panels and a geothermal plant.

No waste generated by the production plant is disposed of in landfill, but is treated instead through recycling, recovery and waste to energy conversion, with only a small residual part incinerated.

The company also uses fair-trade raw materials to formulate products and offsets 100% of product packaging through plant or recycled materials.

The governance of the Davines Group and their transparency in communication of sustainable projects through a company Code of Ethics that guides their relationships with stakeholders and suppliers, as well as training on inclusion and diversity also scored highly.

The Davines Group’s commitment to the professional growth and development of its people, competitive maternity and paternity support, and implementation of company volunteer projects also helped the company grow their overall rating by 18.4 points.

“Measuring and challenging oneself to produce an increasingly more positive impact on the people and the environment is a shared feeling amongst B Corps. We wonder whether there will still be companies in the future that do not share and do not implement regenerative actions to give back more than they take” states Sonia Ziveri, Chief Sustainability Officer of the Davines Group.
