This January, Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa general manager Simon Steele, joined 42 representatives from 13 local Lake District businesses to travel to India on an Overseas Trade Mission, as part of Visit Britain and Cumbria Tourism’s ‘English Lake District Indian Forum’.

The visit was organised to further raise awareness of the Lake District which is becoming increasingly popular with travellers from India - one of the world’s fastest growing economies.

The itinerary included a series of face-to-face meetings, workshops and networking events with over 250 Indian travel agents and tour operators.  These took place in Mumbai and Delhi which account for more than 40% of outbound tourism business from India to Britain.

Returning from the trip, Simon Steele, general manager at Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa said; “This was an extremely worthwhile trip which allowed me to introduce Armathwaite Hall to a large number of the Indian luxury travel market.  Their professionalism and knowledge was incredible and I am very much looking forward to doing business with them.  With fantastic flight connections now from major Indian cities to the North of the UK, this has opened up a huge opportunity for us.”
