The Purser Method of deep tissue massage gains worldwide accreditation.

The Purser Method of deep tissue massage gains worldwide accreditation.

Every massage therapist knows there is a limit to how much massage you can do in a day and the reasons why you would not risk pushing those limits. The concerns surrounding RSI (repetitive strain injury), exhaustion and burnout are very real. Most spas would not risk taking on a therapist who is only trained in massage because of the incredible amount of strain that a therapist’s body goes through, delivering massage after massage. The fast paced and demanding nature of the industry means that absence due to RSI is quite high and the lifespan of a spa therapist can be quite low.

In March 2013 on a Friday afternoon, there was massive disruption on the M5 just South of Birmingham. A crash involving a lorry and eleven other vehicles, brought the traffic to a standstill. Kayleigh Purser, a deep tissue massage therapist and rehabilitation specialist,  was the driver of the car that had taken the brunt of the damage from this accident and the injuries she sustained should have been the end of her nine year long career.

After her release from hospital, rather than give in to her injuries, Kayleigh went back to full time spa work and set about the long task of creating The Purser Method of deep tissue massage therapy, a treatment so focused on the health and wellbeing of the therapist that it actually aided in her recovery.

Early in 2020, after six years of development, The Purser Method was patented and Kayleigh set about getting recognition and accreditation for this method.

Lockdown inevitably put a hold on proceedings but allowed Kayleigh time to write a comprehensive manual and training plan for the method. After lockdown lifted, she set about proving that, not only was The Purser Method incredibly beneficial to the health and wellbeing of the therapist, but it also delivered an exceptional deep tissue treatment to clients.

In January 2023, after close to ten years of development and waiting, Kayleigh finally got the accreditation for The Purser Method that she had been seeking. The course was recognised as a unique and highly effective deep tissue massage methodology and given worldwide accreditation through IPHM (The International Practitioners of Holistic Medicine).

Ever interested in the health and wellbeing of their spa team, Barnsley House Spa chose to be the first spa to train their team in The Purser Method of deep tissue massage therapy and are set to finish their training on the 22nd March 2023. The spa are very excited to be able to offer their clients Deep Tissue Purser Method Massage whilst at the same time promoting the health and wellness of their incredible spa team.

“The spa industry is all about health and wellness, it makes sense to be using training methods that promote the wellbeing of the therapist too” explains Kayleigh.

The course is open to individual therapists as well as spa teams and can be delivered in person or through a blended learning approach (part online and part in person with Kayleigh). A certificate of completion and qualification in deep tissue massage, accredited by IPHM is available to all participants.
