Titanic Spa achieves sustainability accolade for third consecutive year.

West Yorkshire based Titanic Spa, the UK’s first eco-spa, has been recognised as a leading eco spa location in the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards, for the third year in a row, achieving ‘Highly Commended’ in the Best Sustainable Spa category in the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2023. As one of just two award winners, the awards firmly solidifies Titanic Spa’s position as one of the trail blazers of sustainability in UK spa industry. This year, Titanic Spa has been recognised in the Best Sustainable Spa category, previously winning the award in 2021 and achieving ‘Highly Commended’ in 2022. Titanic Spa is the epitome of how green initiatives and investments can lead to beautiful, practical, and sustainable projects that not only care for its guests but the planet too!

Titanic Spa’s Managing Director, Warrick Burton says “We are extremely proud to have been highly commended for our sustainability in the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards, being recognised for the third year running! This national acknowledgment holds huge significance, as it brings awareness on the importance of sustainability and how essential it is for our future, as well as for future generations. We at Titanic Spa hope this encourages other businesses to become more mindful on the impact they are having on the planet”

Some of the eco-friendly attributes that Titanic Spa is proud to have is renewable energy generation, through solar photovoltaic roof panels, as well as the spa’s very own natural water source, found 100m below the spa. This was the original water source when the building was working as an Edwardian textile mill and provides fresh drinking water and bathing water for Titanic Spa’s plunge pool, salt regulated swimming pool, showers and ice experience.

How is Titanic sustainable?

• Titanic Spa is set amongst the hill of the Yorkshire Pennines and uses solar photovoltaic roof panels to generate its own renewable energy
• Titanic has its own private borehole which provides pure Yorkshire water into the spa. This was the original water source when the building was working as an Edwardian textile mill. Today, it provides fresh drinking water and bathing water for the plunge pool, swimming pool, showers, and ice experience.
• The OTEX laundry system, also used in hospitals, is energy efficient and extremely powerful at cleaning
• A ban on single-use plastic on site
• Low U value windows eliminate draughts and thermal mass, so the spa doesn’t overheat in the summer and retains a comfortable temperature during the winter
• Energy efficient lighting and appliances are installed throughout the building to ensure energy is conserved
• Running a large business, Titanic know how much waste can be produced in a single day. They make it their mission to recycle as many materials as possible.
• Recycled paper is used for small batch runs of the spa brochure and vegetable ink dyes for printing.
• The staff and suppliers support the spa by keeping office waste to a minimum and recycling product packaging and office equipment.
• Straws at Titanic are made from seashells – a great biodegradable alternative!
• All food for Titanic Spa contains organic and fair-trade ingredients from locally sourced, in-season produce.
• The Titanic Spa unique Eco Focus Group continuously monitor and reduce the spas impact on the environment. The group is also responsible for researching and implementing new measures such as the single use plastic ban
• The Spa is working towards being carbon neutral.
