Titanic Spa goes plastic free

Titanic Spa goes plastic free

Yorkshire’s luxury eco-spa, The Titanic Spa, has announced a new ‘no plastic’ initiative to cut single-use plastic waste.

It will completely eliminate the use of plastic bottles, straws and cups in a bid to decrease its plastic waste. All plastic will be replaced with recyclable paper alternatives and guests will be invited to keep their eco-friendly reusable water bottles, which they can fill directly from the natural spring on site.

The Campaign was inspired after Titanic Spa volunteers teamed up with Natural Kirklees' Environmental Alliance and pharmaceutical company Thornton & Ross to clear plastic waste from Lowestwood Pond. More than 500 water bottles were removed.

Warrick Burton, MD of Titanic Spa, says: “We successfully launched as the UK’s first eco-spa 12 years ago and it’s our mission to continue leading the industry in a more conscious, sustainable direction. Plastic waste is a serious global problem, so we're delighted to have the public’s support on this initiative.”

This is not the only eco-conscious step that the spa has made – it also makes use of solar panels and thermally-efficient U-value windows. A natural water spring is used to fill swimming pools and plunge pools, and there is an OTEX laundry system, which cleans on a low temperature with ozonated water to disinfect fabrics.
