UK brands from John O’Groats to Lands’ End adopt community first initiatives to help fight coronavirus

Two of the UK’s prestige spa brands have stepped up to support local communities and front-line staff with the provision of much needed hand sanitizer and moisturizers.

Based on the Isle of Lewis, ishga organic luxury seaweed skincare has responded swiftly to an urgent need for hand sanitizer and hand cream in the local Island community. Over the last week, the team at ishga have been working in conjunction with the Isle of Harris Distillery and Essence of Harris, to create a hand sanitizer to donate to frontline service staff in the local community.

ishga is also donating it’s Hydrating Hand Cream to NHS Western Isles Hospital, and to local Hospices and businesses in Stornoway, in order to counteract the dry skin conditions being experienced by staff due to constant hand washing.

At opposing ends of the UK Made for Life Organics in Treliske, Truro has donated packages of Tea & Therapy with 10 ml Hand Balms and Skin Solve to various NHS locations across the UK.

The team at Made for Life has been supporting local teams, including the Royal Exeter and Devon Mere Ward, Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Children’s Hospital (Cancer) at Croydon, and the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. Frimley Park Hospital received £5000 worth of skincare paid for by sponsor and fundraiser Lynn Fordham, who is a massive supporter of the Made for Life Foundation.

Originally developed from an orthodox medical background nearly 20 years ago, Made for Life’s organic and cruelty free range of products have been enhanced by combining research and dermatological science with the strength and purity of botanicals. Excellent for all skin types, the products are particularly good for sensitive skin.

Commenting on their decision to launch the community first initiative, ishga director Malcolm Macrae said: “The communities here in the Outer Hebrides have been very supportive of our business over the years, so it’s great to be able to use our skills and experience in order to give something back. It’s also great to be able to work alongside other local businesses to deliver this very important service to the local community.”

Amanda Winwood, founder of Made for Life Organics added: “We have a fundamental vision at Made for Life and that is to be accessible and to support people wherever we can. It has been a privilege to be able to support the NHS nurses and doctors at this time. Feedback about our gentle skincare nourishing their tired and sore skin has been heart-warming.”
