UK Spa sector reports a surge in bookings as demand for spas returns from Brits craving a boost to physical and mental wellbeing

With 2020 proving to be a uniquely turbulent year, taking a step back and giving the mind and body a break is more important than ever. As spas enjoy a staggered re-opening of facilities and individuals hit the tricky six-month mark of coping with the pandemic, now is the perfect time to focus on a little self-care, whether it’s a last-minute spa day or a short break escape to look forward to as the autumn draws in.

Earlier this year, the Good Spa Guide revealed the results of a survey of more than 5,000 people, showing that 80% of respondents wanted to go on a spa break as soon as possible. In an interview in Spa Business in June, behavioural specialist Daphne Metland predicted that there would be a surge in spa bookings post lockdown, as now more than ever we’re reminded that we must look after our own wellbeing.

So far, Metland’s prediction is proving accurate as Spabreaks.com, the UK’s leading spa bookings agency, confirms that bookings have reached 70% of their pre Covid-19 capacity following spas reopening a month ago.

Importantly, spas are reopening in a way that not only adheres to, and respects, Covid-secure measures, but that also seeks to enhance experiences that support the health, wellbeing and peace of mind which may have been neglected over the last few months. For example, the warm weather has provided an excellent opportunity to enjoy some of the spectacular spa gardens available across the UK.

Spabreaks.com Founder, Abi Selby, says: “It’s been an incredibly difficult year for the spa industry but it has been wonderful to see spas do so much to embrace the new set of circumstances and really celebrate the meaning of spa in its many different guises. It’s also been lovely to see how welcoming and supportive customers have been when it comes to returning to spas. The support they have shown for everyone working hard to make sure they have a safe, relaxing and meaningful experience at their favourite destinations, has meant the world.”
