University of Derby promotes wellness

The University of Derby recently organised Buxton's first Wellness Walk as part of an ongoing strategy to position Buxton at the forefront of the UK's wellness tourism industry.

Taking in Buxton's heritage and architectural sights, as well as showcasing it as a wellness destination, the Wellness Walk was part of the Global Wellness Day and was intended to encourage people to take control of their physical, emotional and mental health.

Sian Jones, Manager of the University's Devonshire Spa, said: “Wellness is a mind-set. We are living in an age where people are suffering from burn-out and the global wellness movement is really taking off. It's about finding that balance of life that works for you – mind, body and soul.”

Jones' work at the spa is part of the University's long-term plan to make Buxton the UK's leading wellness tourism town. The University now teaches Wellness at degree level in anticipation of the predicted growth in the wellness industry, which is expected to be worth billions of pounds annually in the next few years.
