Virgin Voyages spa plans revealed

Virgin Voyages spa plans revealed

Sir Richard Branson’s latest project, Virgin Voyages, has unveiled its first cruise ship, complete with extensive spa facilities.

The cruise line, a rebrand of the former Virgin Cruises, incorporates wellness into all aspects of its design – renderings feature a yoga deck, wellness pool and hydrotherapy pool, all under the banner of ‘Vitamin Sea’, an ideology inspired by the oceans and their importance in the health of the planet and our daily lives.

The fifth deck Redemption spa will offer a mud room, a salt room, cold plunge pools, quartz beds and treatments. Inspired by an underwater cave, Redemption will serve as a mermaid and merman hideaway. Evening spa parties will be held in the Redemption Thermal Suite, where a DJ will transform the space into a ‘mermaid hideaway extravaganza’.

Virgin Voyages CEO, Tom McAlpin, says: ‘We are all so busy with life, work and family that vacations are critical to rebuild our energy, so that we can live our best lives. With wellbeing at the heart of everything we do, sailors (passengers) will come back feeling rejuvenated, not like they need a holiday from their holiday.”

The vision of designers Concrete Amsterdam, the Scarlet Lady has been created with outdoor and outward looking spaces – the Crow’s Nest, with its 360-degree view, is a secluded sun deck for sunrise and sunset yoga.

Sir Richard also revealed that all single-use plastics will be eliminated on Virgin Voyages, with a ban on items including straws, water bottles, sauce packets, shopping bags, food packaging, stirrers and takeaway coffee cups. He says: “Nothing makes me prouder than seeing companies like Virgin Voyages striving to make a positive impact on the world we live in. Business is a force for good and can and must be the catalyst for global change.”

Virgin Voyages will operate three vessels in total, the first of which will arrive at PortMiami in the USA in 2020.
